Follow this trail of 10 signs to learn about walking and riding your bicycle safely.

Crosswalk
A marked place to cross the street.
How-To

Stay within the white painted lines when you cross the street. When crossing, walk. DO NOT run.
Try this!

Walk like your favorite animal to get across the crosswalk.
For instance: Hop like a bunny or leap like a frog. RIBBIT!
Did you know?
This signal means “safe to cross,” but you still have to look first.

Left-Right-Left
What to do before you cross the street.
How-To
Before crossing, check to make sure the road is clear.
Always look...

Left...

...then right...

...then left again
...before crossing.
Try this!

Play Simon Says, using the words “left” and “right.”
Did you know?
The left side of the brain controls the right side of the body.
The right side of the brain controls the left side of the body.

Curb
Raised pavement between the edge of the street and the sidewalk.
How-To

Always stop at the curb, and stand a few steps away, so you are not too close to traffic.

Play Red Light, Green Light with a friend to practice your stopping skills.
Did you know?
This signal means “DO NOT WALK.”
When this signal is lit, it is not safe to cross. Wait for the “WALK” signal.

Obstructions
Something that blocks your view.
How-To

If something is blocking your view, like a parked car, it is not safe to cross.
Find a place where you have a clear view of the street to cross safely.

Play Hide and Seek. What obstructions can you find?
Did you know?
The muscles that control your eyes are the most active muscles in your body.

Visibility
How easy it is to see something.
How-To

Wear bright colors when walking or bicycling, so you can be seen easily.
Try this!

Play I Spy. Can you find something yellow, green, red, or orange?
These colors are some of the most visible!
Did you know?
This signal tells drivers when to stop (red), when to slow down (yellow), and when to go (green).

Helmet
Headwear to protect your head.
How-To
Make sure your helmet fits properly by using the two-finger rule. The helmet should cover the forehead.

Did you know?
This sign tells drivers to come to a complete stop and make sure it is safe and clear before going.

A.B.C. Quick
What to do before you ride your bike.
How-To
Use the "A.B.C. Quick" check before going for a ride.
A is for air "AIR" (used to inflate your tires)
B is for "BRAKES"
C is for "CHAIN"
QUICK is for "Quick release," the lever used to adjust your saddle height or to clamp the wheels to the bike frame.

Did you know?
Steel rusts easier in humid places like Miami. If rusty, your bike may not work. Take care of your bicycle!

Road Rules
Steps to stay safe when riding your bike.
How-To

Use hand signals to let people know when you are turning or stopping.

When riding on the street, ALWAYS ride in the same direction as traffic.
Did you know?
People can get hurt when they are distracted by their phones. Do not use a phone or headphones when crossing the street or riding your bicycle (and tell your parents to stop texting while driving).
